Where will you be in school next year?

University of Iowa

How many years have you been in S.C.A.R.F.?

1

What are you most looking forward to by participating in the S.C.A.R.F. Program this year?

The SCARF program will provide me an opportunity to apply analytical learning and critical thinking to
different patients scenarios that are necessary as I pursue a career in the medical field. I was able to briefly observe Dr. Nguyen review a quiz with the
students and I was thoroughly impressed with the intricacy and detail of each question/answer
explanation. Obtaining the experience of critically
thinking through a patient's history, lab values, and testing is a unique experience that would greatly prepare me for medical school as I have yet to encounter an opportunity to work through these types
of questions in my undergraduate training. I would also like to discover my strengths and weaknesses in both a
professional setting as well as in terms of my
application for medical school. I believe these go hand in hand and therefore think I would benefit greatly from
the mentorship side of the program. I would like to
learn how I can build upon my strengths but also work towards improving my weaknesses in the application process for medical school. Receiving personalized guidance and advice from experienced mentors and
developing a supportive network of peers that can
provide encouragement and assistance would be
extremely valuable. I would also like to gain insight into the field of Cardiology and learn about the various
cardiovascular diseases. I already have a great deal of experience observing in the field of Orthopedics and I would love the opportunity to explore another specialty in medicine. Furthermore, the clinical experience and
case studies involving the cardiovascular system within the SCARF program will set a great foundation to build
upon as my studies advance. I believe the experience gained through this program will help further prepare
me for future success.

What do you want people to remember about you?

I want people to remember my work ethic and the effort I put into things. I also want people to remember that I am someone that truly wants the best for other people and that I genuinely care about others.
