Meet the Class

Where will you be in school next year?
Schaumburg H.S.
How many years have you been in S.C.A.R.F.?

What are you most looking forward to by participating in the S.C.A.R.F. Program this year?
While this program offers many invaluable experiences for young individuals interested in learning about health, professionalism, and ways to make lasting change in their community, one specific experience I
would like to gain through this program is the
application of medical knowledge through
strengthening my clinical skills and presenting complex medical concepts. Throughout the past couple of years in high school, I’ve learned about fascinating medical
terminology, diseases, and processes. But, it wasn’t
until this year in my Anatomy and Physiology class that my teacher explained that our knowledge is only worth
something if we can apply it to real-life situations for
the greater good. I realized the importance of learning to effectively put knowledge into practice during my digestive system practical exam, where I dissected a
pig. Dissection offered me a hands-on, tangible
experience that closely mirrored human physiology. Through SCARF’s program, I hope to build upon the
technical and critical thinking skills required for
dissection. By shadowing Dr. Paul Nguyen and his team of doctors, surgeons, and NPs as they diagnose and treat patients, as well as Dr. Rubina Nguyen, I aim to
reinforce theoretical concepts and enhance my clinical skills in patient interaction, physical examination techniques, teamwork, and patient education. Additionally, through the Scientific Symposium Project, I
aspire to learn about heart conditions and gain
analytical skills in drawing evidence-based conclusions to effectively articulate what I’ve researched about
Sudden Cardiac Death, its signs, and preventative
measures. Learning to apply my research to
educational outreach for the benefit of my community will be a vital experience for me to grow professionally.
What do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to remember my comedic presence as I'm always making snarky responses to a comment said by another person
