What are you most looking forward to by participating in the S.C.A.R.F. Program this year?
My exposure to the activities within SCARF last summer marked a pivotal change in my academic career --
specifically, I gained access to valuable professional, interpersonal, and medical expertise that I had never
been familiar with. Returning to the program for this upcoming summer would be an excellent way to build on the foundational skills I’ve developed and maintained throughout the summer and into this year. As a second-year student, I’ll be given additional opportunities to foster my expertise in the medical field. For instance, I could have the ability to observe
procedures within cardiology or interventional radiology
limited to only higher-level SCARF students. Experiencing these privileges would allow me to increase the scope of my clinical experience, satisfying my desire for exposure to specialized clinical settings. I’ll also be able to further develop my research skills. My summer in SCARF catalyzed a newfound passion for research -- the ability to sit down, piece apart the current literature of a topic and synthesize conclusions alongside a reputable solution marked a thorough, innovative understanding of the subject matter. Throughout my academic career, when given a
problem, I’ve always worked to create an end product that solves the issue accordingly. Whether that be
through creating an entirely new scouting application for my Robotics team or the coordination of service
events within my HOSA chapter, I’ve persevered to
create a finished product. SCARF provided me an
opportunity to utilize that determination in a research setting, and having the ability to repeat that experience
but with a new set of information and coworkers will diversify my overall experience.
What do you want people to remember about you?
