What are you most looking forward to by participating in the S.C.A.R.F. Program this year?
Through the SCARF program, I aim to gain hands-on experiences that provide a deeper understanding of
healthcare and what a career in medicine truly entails. Volunteering at Edward Hospital, FMSC, and Key Club events has shown me the profound impact healthcare
professionals can have on individuals and communities. However, I want to explore how technical expertise,
empathy, and collaboration come together to create a
comprehensive patient experience. One specific experience I hope to gain is shadowing medical professionals in diverse settings. Observing
their decision-making and patient interactions will
deepen my understanding of patient care and help me develop the communication and problem-solving skills
needed to address diverse patient needs. I’m also excited to gain research experience, particularly in the field of sudden cardiac death. Learning how to design and conduct studies, analyze data, and translate findings into actionable healthcare
solutions will help me cultivate a scientific mindset and a deeper understanding of medical innovation. Additionally, I look forward to improving my public speaking and collaboration skills through group research projects, mock interviews, and the symposium.
Through SCARF, I hope to build on my experiences,
further explore cardiology, and immerse myself in the
scientific, technical, and human aspects of medicine— ultimately preparing myself for a meaningful career as
a physician.
